The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office said a sex offender was charged after trying to access social media.

Brandon Wayne Bailey was charged with one count of accessing Facebook on June 8, a felony in North Carolina, according to deputies.

Investigators said Bailey’s Facebook account was active and he had also accessed another account under a different name.

Bailey was place under a $15,000 secured bond.

According to Sheriff Gary Banks, keeping sex offenders accountable by strictly enforcing sex offender laws is a top priority of his office. Banks said that he has instructed his sex offender unit to work diligently to insure the safety of the children in Yancey County.
