GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

It was a day full of press conferences for the current Greenville County Sheriff Steve Lofts and his opponent in the race for sheriff, Will Lewis.

On Monday Sheriff Loftis made a speech saying that Lewis, a former Greenville County deputy, was investigated for misconduct for an incident involving a female deputy. Lewis quickly said the woman was a friend of his family and he gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek at a call and someone complained.

Sheriff Loftis also said Lewis would not be eligable for rehire due to the disciplinary action taken against him but Lewis presented a copy of his resignation letter signed by Sheriff Loftis, and it stated the reason for the officer leaving the department did not involve misconduct.

On Tuesday, Lewis held his own press conference presenting large signs. One sign was a tax form regarding money owed by Sheriff Loftis and his wife. Another sign had dozens of receipts from the Outman Cigar Bar, that Lewis and his campaign said were from visits that Sheriff Loftis made on the job.

The former general manager of the cigar bar, Brandon Brown, said Loftis would come into the business at noon, sometimes even at two or three in the afternoon. Brown said he would sometimes have a coffee and an iced water.

Brown said, "we watched him on numerous occasions, watched him get into his county-owned vehicle drive to his residence, several times I've had to follow him home after asking him to both allow us to take him home and being refused." Brown said he would go into the business with his badge and gun showing.

Loftis in his own press conference shortly after on Lewis' on Tuesday said the accusations were absurd and that he never had multiple drinks at the cigar bar. Loftis said he had no idea where these accusations came from.

"It's an act of desperation, nothing surprises me really in their accusations and finger pointing that's been going on in the past several weeks."

Will Lewis said the reason Loftis came forward with his information regarding Lewis' background was because he said he will not debate him before the June 28 runoff election.
