GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The mobile dental clinic from Bon Secours St. Francis is working to bring dental care to the uninsured and under-insured in Greenville County.

Dr. Dana Parker has  been part of the clinic since 2006. Today she helps run it, offering free dental services to the poor in Greenville County.

For many of them, she says, the clinic addresses issues that have gone on for years, including tooth decay.

According to DHEC, South Carolina has a huge need for reduced or free dental care. In 2010, 52 percent of third graders across the state had some form of tooth decay, and 33 percent of those students went untreated.

Parker said untreated dental problems can lead to other general health problems later on in life.

"Dental insurance is very tough to get and doesn't cover a lot of their needs even when they do have it," said Dr. Parker.

Patients can have minor procedures done at the mobile clinic, which is by appointment only.

For information on how you can make an appointment, call Bon Secours St. Francis Community Ministries at 864-675-4300.
