HARTFORD, CT (FOX Carolina) -

The Department of Social Services’ central office experienced an outage that has affected the Family Independence and SNAP program benefits.

A widespread storm throughout the state on June 17 caused the department to experience technical difficulties with the system that support those benefits.

Those seeking to apply for benefits can no longer do so online. Individuals may still apply for Family Independence or SNAP benefits in person, by mail or fax to their local county DSS office until the system is repaired.

Affected individuals also include those who submitted an application for Family Independence or SNAP benefits between June 1 and June 28 or a mailed recertification form during the same time period. Those individuals could experience interruptions or delays in their benefits.

In order to avoid interruption or further delay to benefits, individuals who applied or recertified their benefits in this time period should resubmit any documentation to their local county DSS office.

Applicants can download or print an application by clicking here.

For further questions contact your local county DSS office or call 1-800-616-1309.
