Deputies keep K9s safe during extreme heat

Posted: Updated:
ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

As dangerous heat makes its way across the Upstate, law enforcement agencies are making sure their four-legged officers stay safe and in good health.

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said all vehicles in which their K9 officers ride are equipped with air conditioning and K9 heat alarms or hot-n-pop systems.

The systems allow the handler to set an internal vehicle temperature. If the temperature exceeds the setting, the vehicle’s siren goes off to alert the deputy, according to deputies.

Some of the K9 heat alarms were donated by the Clemson Kennel Club.

Deputies said there are also fail safe systems in place and checked each time the vehicle goes in for regular maintenance.
