A mix of sun and clouds starts the week, with slightly above normal temperatures. Expect Upstate highs to reach the low 90s, with mid-80s across Western NC. Winds will be gentle in the upstate, flowing mainly out of the southwest between five and ten miles per hour. Expect calm conditions to settle over the mountains.
The heat will likely trigger afternoon showers and storms for both the mountains and the Upstate. Expect any rain that develops to continue moving through the area into the evening.
Heavy downpours will be associated with some thunderstorms, as well as gusty wind and frequent lightning.
The summery pattern sticks around through the rest of the week, with even greater chances for storms by Thursday and Friday.
