GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Upstate police officer is helping Pokemon Go users get active.

Officer Cody Garrett made headlines in May when he rescued a kitten named Squirt while on a call. A photo of Garrett with Squirt on his shoulder went viral when she was found in the rain under a dumpster.

Now the mustachioed lawman is gaining attention again for a high-tech exercise routine he created.

Pokemon Go, the latest release in the Pokemon franchise, is taking the world by storm. The app, which uses GPS and augmented reality technology, allows fans to catch Pokemon in the "real world."

Garrett said the app has people accidentally exercising and he wants to make it even healthier with the help of a professional bodybuilder and fellow SWAT team member.

"There have been so many posts online of people saying, 'I haven't walked this far in years, I'm actually starting to lose weight from catching Pokemon'," Garrett said. "So I figured to take it that step further, you know, and add some interval training exercises in there."

He launched a PokeFitness website which has workouts to do while trying to catch 'em all.

Tuesday's exercise routine was as follows:

Jog/ walk/ ruck/ bike until completion of:
Catching 20 Pokemon, regardless of what they are
(don’t worry, you can always send them back to the professor for more Pokecandy!)

Every time you catch a Pokemon that you already own, do 10 air squats and 10 lunges (10 lunges each leg)
Every time you catch a Pokemon that you don’t own, do 20 air squats and 20 lunges (20 lunges each leg)

End of exercise: Whatever the CP of the 20th Pokemon you catch, plank for that long in seconds. Example: the CP of the 20th Pokemon I catch is 120, I’ll plank for 2 minutes straight!

If the CP is too high, just try to get there! The burning is a good thing!
