ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A simple sign hangs from the mailbox of the Durham family home. In yellow letters, "Polices Lifes Matters."

It's what nine-year-old Jamison Durham made for his father, Josh Durham, and other law enforcement officers across the Upstate. To Jamison, the state trooper is simply "Dad."

"They have families too that care about them, the policeman. They're helping people, and if you take away their lives then they can't help people anymore," Jamison Durham said.

His father, Josh Durham, is a state trooper with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Jamison said with recent officer-involved shootings across this nation, he gets worried about his dad on duty.

"He's a good dad. He takes care of us. He helps us with homework. You can really tell he loves us," Jamison said.

"It's the family of law enforcement and the children of law enforcement that are affected probably more than law enforcement itself," Josh Durham said,

Jamison's mother, Kimberly Durham, posted the sign on Facebook, and it started a conversation.

"He asked me to come outside, and then he showed me the sign and it just it just broke my heart because I didn't know how much he worried about his dad. I didn't know to that extent, and so when I saw the sign, I just started crying," Durham said.

Josh Durham said he was extremely touched by his son's actions. "It really brought to light to me just how much that my family including both my little boys do worry about me while I'm on duty."

Jamison wants to encourage others to thank law enforcement. "I think they'll need to pray for law enforcement and greet them and shake their hands."
