There's a lot underneath the hood of your car, but there's also and engine, transition, and belts that need checking up over time. "We see oil leaks, fuel leak stuff that's hard to catch sometimes in the day to day," said Zachary Allen.

Allen is the lead master technician at A Gud Buy Auto Repair Center in Greer, he said there are a number of reasons why a car could catch fire. "The oil leaks, electrical hazards in the vehicle... there's electrical everything from the battery to extreme heat temperatures in there," said Allen.

Allen said the temperatures under your hood can get as high as 400 degrees.
A tow truck went up in smoke today along Interstate 85 and was scorched under today's heat.  And inside Garage B at the GSP airport, another car caught fire, and it was parked.

"Periodically keep and eye on things bring it in have it inspected... something you haven't had looked at in a while," said Allen.  But, there were more than cars going up in flames.

Crews in Clinton worked to stop this fire at Carolina Shavings. "In this case here, his equipment I think probably could have sparked something, we hadn't gotten that far yet, but that's kind of what we suspect," said Robin Morse.

Morse is the Director of Public Safety for the City of Clinton. He said to check any equipment you have at your home or business, and  take preventative measures so this doesn't happen to you.

"Have proper wiring, don't be burning candles unless you've got them safe," said Morse. On the City of Clinton's website information and tips are provided, as listed below:

-Two free fire detectors are available to all senior citizens.
-Smoke detectors are only cost 5 dollars to the public.
-If you use oxygen call public safety to be put on a priority list.
-Public safety also offers home inspections.
