WARE SHOALS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Emergency crews were called out after an accident Saturday night at the Ware Shoals Dragway.

Laurens County Sheriff Ricky Chastain said that a car flipped during one of the races and hit two or three cars.

He said injuries were reported in the accident.

Coroner Nick Nichols confirmed Anthony Craig Owen, 38, was killed when his car made a hard right turn on the track, hit a wall and flipped several times.

Owen died from blunt force trauma, according to the coroner. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

The man who coordinated the drag racing event said he had met Owen a few weeks before.

"Just a really nice guy," said Chris Becker, owner of Better Build Customs in Anderson. "Just somebody you could talk to so easily. He could do anything."

Becker said Owen was well-known in the Upstate racing community.

On Sunday Sheriff Chastain reported that a bystander was actually struck by the vehicle. The victim was transported to Greenwood Hospital. We are unsure of the victim's injuries at this time.

Sheriff Chastain said it appeared that the victim had pushed a child out of the way so that the child was not hit by the car.

A source close to the victim says Jason Kelly of Greenville was the man struck by the flipping car.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for both victims.

The page for the family of Anthony Craig Owen and his funeral expenses can be found here.

Becker has organized a drag race scheduled for Sept. 11 at Union County Dragway. Proceeds from the event will benefit Owen's and Kelly's families.
