ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

It's almost back to school time and many of you are cleaning out those closets, making room for some new finds.
Anderson county District Five said choosing where those clothes end up can make all the difference. Anderson Mall is teaming up with District Five's Career Center to collect professional clothes to help students land their first jobs.

This idea all comes from a project thought of in a Chamber of Commerce leadership course. One of those leaders was an Upstate woman Christie Etter, who works for Anderson Mall now and is heading the clothing drive.

"When I was in leadership Anderson, a program to the Chamber of Commerce, you did a tour of Anderson District 5 career to campus. And get involved and we saw there was a great need for the community to get involved. We also noticed that they also didn't have a good place for the students to get professional clothing, for the professional dress day," Etter said.

"I have heard of some of the female students don't have a say a purse, some the guys don't have slacks or suits to wear. So whether given this where's the interview it obviously makes them feel a little bit more comfortable to go in and that professional atmosphere," Kyle Newton said.

Newton from District Five said the career center provides skills to survive in the work place. He adds a professional image can make all the difference.

"It really helps level the playing field for them when I go into interview and meet with industry leaders," Newton said.

These two both said it may be a clothing drive, but it's impact will have a life long lasting effect.  "The way we look at it is the work force development, impacts economic development," Newton said.

The clothing drive at the mall is accepting donations until August 21. To donate, stop by the mall administrative office. They said all donations are tax deductible.
