GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Due to the bus driver shortage, Greenville County Schools are alerting parents that there may be a delay in bus routes.

Elizabeth Brotherton from Greenville county school district says they had a great first day, with no major issues.

Brotherton warns that there may be more late buses in the afternoon than in the morning due to many reasons such as:

  • Taking a few extra minutes to load children on the bus to ensure they are getting on the right one.
  • Many drivers are new to their route and drivers who are doubling routes because of the shortae.
  • Tagged students: All kindergarten and first grade students must be picked up by a parent or guardian at their bus stop with a matching tag. If the parent is not there to claim the child, then the driver must return the child to school. Instead of being able to continue the route, the driver must return to the elementary school first then proceed on route.
  • General traffic and construction delays.

If parents or guardians have any questions, they are asked to call the bus transportation hotline at 864-355-3100. The information is also available on the Greenville county School District App.
