SIX MILE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Pickens County Sheriff's Office said a bicyclist could face a $232.50 fine after an accident that claimed the life of a woman and her unborn child.

Deputies said 24-year-old Rose Marie Higgins was walking with her boyfriend on Mount Olivet Road on July 22 when she was struck head-on by a bicyclist riding without a headlight.

Higgins was airlifted to the hospital where she was pronounced brain dead and the baby was also determined to be deceased.

The bicyclist was identified as 20-year-old Marvin William Andrews. Deputies said neither Andrews nor Higgins could see each other until the moment of impact in the dark.

After an investigation, deputies determined neither alcohol nor drugs played a factor in the collision.

Andrews was charged with operating a bicycle on the roadway without a headlight during night time.
