PIEDMONT, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Several new sections, countless new scares, and a huge cast of ghouls and goblins await at Madworld Haunted Attractions in Piedmont for the 2016 Halloween season.

The scream park is locating on a dead-end road fronting I-85 just off Exit 35, with a huge, fog-shrouded skull marking the gates to the compound.

Once you cross the skull barrier, the scares begin right away, as performers in Hollywood-quality makeup roam the grounds. Hulking giants, creepy clowns, a bat-like vampire, a pair of she-demons, and characters from the independent film “The Houses October Built” meander through the complex, popping up in unexpected places and photos.

The descent into the Madworld begins with a visit to the newest attraction, Hotel Hell, where the creepy concierge promises “you’ll fall for the place.” He’s right.

Other new attractions along the half-mile trail include Pinehurst Asylum, a scary circus ring, and a post-apocalyptic diner.

FOX Carolina photojournalist Brie Merritt live streamed her tour of the Pinehurst Asylum on the FOX Carolina News Facebook page.

Around every corner, you’ll encounter costumed characters, hoards of them. They emerge from the air, the ground, and seemingly straight through the walls in some scenes.

“This year we have more actors than ever before,” said co-owner Tim Thompson.

Many scenes are also visually stunning, offering movie-quality sets and props and dazzling light and fog effects.

Finally, to make it out of the Madworld, you have to make your way through the most intense fog and strobe light combination you’ve likely ever encountered.

The Madworld compound also offers two escape rooms which can be booked online.

“We have The Tomb, which is set inside an Egyptian Pyramid, and Alcatraz, where you have to break out of prison,” Thompson said. “Just don’t let the guard catch you out of your cell, or he will put you in handcuffs.”

The compound also features a bonfire area, snack bar, and culinary offerings from the Area 51 Food Truck, which will offer new menu items each week.

“You’ll get much more than your money’s worth,” Thompson said.

Madworld opens for its sixth season on Friday, Sept. 30.
