GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A group of cyclists departed from Greenville on a journey to Maine on Saturday for the annual Challenge to Conquer Cancer.

The Challenge, also known as the C3 ride, is a fundraising fitness event to raise money for cancer research and advocacy that aims to “provide hope, encouragement and unity to all those who are affected by cancer,” according to the C3 website. Funds raised benefits the Greenville Health System’s Center for Integrative Oncology and Survivorship, which provides a holistic approach to increase quality of life in patients and decrease potential cancer risks; and the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing, which offers free support, education and wellness services to anyone impacted by cancer.

A departure ceremony was held at the GHS Cancer Center Saturday morning.

The group of cyclists will relay from Greenville to Lewiston, ME over a nine-day span.
