GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Upstate community activism group invited Greenville residents to participate in a peaceful demonstration Saturday evening.

The Upstate Freedom Fighters organized the "Die In," encouraging residents to gather at the Peace Center in downtown Greenville, starting at 7 p.m.

Demonstrators could be seen laying on the ground outside the Peace Center. They were surrounded by photos of people who have died as a result of violence.

Traci Fant of the Upstate Freedom Fighters said the purpose of the demonstration was to help bring justice to murder victims and hold those who perpetuate violence accountable for their actions.

"We have to promote accountability," said Fant. "We have to hold these people accountable for the crimes they commit as we also want to hold the police accountable."

"Us preventing the next death," she continued, "Whether it be by police officer or by someone in the community, that's what we stand for and that's what we have to push."
