GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Police in Laurens said a man who drowned in Lake Greenwood Sunday night was facing attempted murder charges.

Officials with the Department of Natural Resources said they received reports that someone jumped off a bridge and into the water around 6:30 p.m.and never resurfaced.

Witnesses said earlier that the individual was at a bar telling people he was going to jump, and that he got onto the back of the trunk of a vehicle and jumped off over the bridge.

The Greenwood County Coroner reported that he responded to the scene around 6:48 p.m. after receiving reports that the man had jumped from a moving vehicle crossing the bridge toward Laurens County.

The body was pulled from the water around 10:30 p.m.

The victim was identified as 41-year-old Carlos Manning Childs, Jr. of Old Laurens Road in Laurens, per Coroner Sonny Cox.

Childs was charged with attempted murder after a July stabbing at The Waterhole bar in Laurens.

Police said Child stabbed another man after a dispute over a woman.
