GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Secretary of State Mark Hammond is offering free seminars for South Carolina notaries and people interested in becoming a notary public.

The seminars will outline the duties and responsibilities of notaries under the law.

Hammond said the key function of a notary is to protect citizens against fraudulent activity and notaries must undergo training necessary to perform the duties of the position as required by law.

Hammond’s seminars will detail state laws concerning the duties and responsibilities of notaries and how notaries can avoid pitfalls and unauthorized practices.

On Monday, Hammond will host a seminar in Greenwood at the Greenwood County Library, located at 600 South Main Street.

On October 11, Hammond will hold another meeting in Spartanburg County at Spartanburg Community College, located at 107 Community College Drive in Spartanburg.

The meetings will start at 6 p.m.
