ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

As you go about your day, how often do you think about getting caught up in an active shooter situation?

Some say nowadays they think about it more than ever.

Steve Butler, assistant manager at HTF Survival Store in Anderson, said he wants customers and citizens to always be prepared for a situation similar to recent scenes in Baltimore, Washington and Houston.

"HTF stands for "Hits the Fan," said Butler. The store's somewhat comical name highlights a serious question Butler said more people are asking: How to survive a mass casualty scenario.

"We've got customers that are becoming a little bit more aware of their surroundings," said Butler. "We've got people that want to know how to extract themselves from dangerous situations, how to protect themselves, and how to treat themselves if they become wounded."

The store carries fully-stocked trauma kits, trauma dressings, tourniquets and lockdown kits: kits that hold food, water and other necessities for hours-long lockdown situations.

The Need to Prepare

It was a bloody weekend in the United States with at least three mass shootings. One was at a shopping mall in Washington where five people died.
19 people were injured in downtown Baltimore during a shooting rampage Saturday. Monday, more were injured in a shooting at a Houston strip mall - a strip mall much like the one where HTF is located.

Butler urged everyone to keep emergency kits close-by in case of a similar situation. Local emergency management officials agree.
