Special elections to fill city council seats in Anderson, Gaffney on Tuesday

ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Anderson and Gaffney will have special elections on Tuesday to fill city council seats.

In Anderson, two Anderson County School District Five officials are vying for Anderson City Council Seat 1. The seat was previously held by Steve Kirven, who stepped down in June.

Jay Blankenship, who serves on the District 5 board of trustees, and Kyle Newton, the school district's public spokesman, are on the ballot.

Polling locations include Concord and Whitehall elementary schools, Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, Anderson Area YMCA, and Anderson Christian School.

In Gaffney, two candidates are vying for Gaffney City Council Seat 2, which had been held by Thomas Reid until his death in June.

Harold H McCluney Sr. and Charles Allen Montgomery Sr. are on the ballot.

Call the Cherokee County Voter Registration and Elections office at 864-487-2563 for polling place information.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
