TOWNVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

During a press conference on Wednesday, the superintendent of Anderson County District 4 said classes would be cancelled at Townville Elementary after a shooting.

Dr. Joanne Avery spoke to the media at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, just hours after a teenage shooter reportedly opened fire at the elementary school, injuring a teacher and two students.

Deputies said the shooter's father was found dead a few miles away from the school. The coroner confirmed his death was a homicide and it is being investigating in connection with the school shooting.

Avery said classes would be cancelled for the rest of the week at Townville Elementary in light of the tragedy. While classes were originally expected to resume on Monday, Avery confirmed students would not return until Thursday, Oct. 6.

She said the school has conducted active shooter drills in the past.
