Memorial fund for slain Anderson Co. K-9 hopes to help Townville Elementary students

TOWNVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The memorial fund for Hyco, an Anderson County Sheriff's Office K-9 slain in the line of duty, is hoping to make the return to school a little easier for Townville Elementary students.

The school will remain closed through Friday after a teenage shooter reportedly opened fire on the playground, wounding two first grade students and a teacher.

Students who were in their classrooms at the time of the shooting reported hearing gunfire. One parent said her son is having nightmares and is afraid to go back to class.

That is why the Hyco Memorial Fund wants to help out.

The non-profit is raising money to give each of the 285 students at Townville Elementary School a stuffed figure of an Anderson County K-9 officers.

The group said the stuffed animal will hopefully help the children feel safe and protected.

The cost to adopt a K-9 to be given to a Townville Elementary student costs $8. Donations can be sent online or to the following address:
