GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office is investigating the reported assault of a professional road cyclist.

George Hincapie, who helped Lance Armstrong in all seven Tour de France victories, posted on Facebook last week saying he was assaulted on Paris Mountain.

Hincapie said a person in a brown Subaru tried to run him off the road, tried to punch him and pulled a gun on him. The athlete was reportedly with his 8-year-old son at the time.

Deputies confirmed they are investigating the incident.
