The Greenville County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a student with a knife on a school bus Friday.

According to dispatchers, the incident was reported in the 1500 block on Geer Highway. A Heritage Elementary School bus was involved.

Beth Brotherton, spokesperson for Greenville County Schools, confirmed a second grade student opened her pencil case on the bus and discovered a pocket knife inside.

The knife was reported to the bus driver, who returned to the school.

After speaking the child, Brotherton said deputies and administrators do not believe the child knew the knife was in her bag - or that she had any intention of using it.

"Officers do not believe students were ever in any danger," Brotherton said. "The principal has called all parents to inform them about the incident."
