TOWNVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to benefit the family of a first-grade boy who was shot in the foot when deputies said a teen gunman opened fire on the Townville Elementary School playground on Sept. 28.

Collin was injured, along with a teacher and fellow first grader Jacob Hall, who passed away on Saturday afternoon.

Mallorie Mappin, a friend of Collin’s family, launched a GoFundMe campaign in hopes of raising $10,000 for the family.

Below is Mappin’s message from the GoFundMe page.

“The community support for everyone in Townville has been amazing! I have been speaking with the parents of Collin (the 2nd child to be injured). Collin is doing very well. He saw a specialist yesterday about his foot, and they gave him a boot to assist him in walking some. The wound on his foot is looking good and his spirits are up. The family wishes to remain private, to protect Collin from the chaos that is media. They do need support from all of you though. If anyone would like to make any donations, whether it be monetary, cards, anything at all please contact me. Collins parents are missing work to be with him and he will have some medical bills that need to paid as well. Anything at would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for reading and please continue your prayers for these children.

Help spread the word!”

As of Saturday evening, more than $ 3,200 had been pledged to help the family.
