TOWNVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Officials said people from across the Upstate turned out in droves on Sunday to donate blood in memory of 6-year-old Jacob Hall.

Jacob died Saturday after being wounded in the shooting at Townviille Elementary School on Sept. 28.

Frost responders teamed up with the Blood Connection to host a blood drive Sunday at the Townville Fire Department.

Oconee County Fire Chief Charlie King said the response from the community was overwhelming and the Blood Connection had to request additional buses the meet the demand.

Below is a message King sent to Upstate news outlets.

Friends,

We are asking your help to get the word out to the community regarding our blood drive today. As you are aware we are holding a blood drive today at the Townville Fire Station in Honor & Memory of little Jacob Hall. The response from the community has been overwhelming. The staff at the Blood Connection is sending additional blood mobiles and staff to handle surge of those wanting to give. We ask that you help us inform the community to please come see us, more help is on the way and we will do everything to ensure everyone is willing to give. Thank you for everything each of you have done to support us over the past week. CVK.
