2-year-old dies after struck by vehicle in Oconee Co.

WALHALLA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Dispatchers say troopers are responding to a crash where there are reports of a child being hit by a vehicle.

The incident reportedly happened around 5:15 p.m. on Westminster Highway, about 1 mile south of Walhalla.

Troopers said a 39-year-old Westminster man was driving a 2016 BMW south on 183 South when he struck a 2-year-old boy crossing the street.

The driver of the BMW was wearing a seatbelt during the crash and was not injured. 

Sadly, the 2-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries at Oconee Medical Center where he was transported after the crash. The coroner identified the toddler as Samuel Thomas Bryant of Westminster. He was in front of his home on the 1900 block of Westminster Highway in Walhalla when the accident occurred.

No charges have yet been filed in this incident.

The crash is still under investigation at this time.
