NEWBERRY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Newberry County is expected to experience traffic congestion on Wednesday as more than one million people are evacuated from the South Carolina coast.

State officials plan to begin lane reversals on Interstate 26 eastbound at 3 p.m. on Wednesday to speed up traffic moving toward Columbia.

The Newberry County Sheriff's Office said due to the expected traffic and the possible use of schools as shelters, elementary schools will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.

Middle and high schools will dismiss at 1 p.m.

Lunch will be served before dismissal.
