GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Home Depot workers from the Upstate will work with Purple Heart Homes in Greenville to make improvements at a combat veteran’s home.

More than 15 area Home Depot associates and workers with Purple Heart Homes to transform John Smith’s home.

Home Depot said Smith was a combat engineer with the Army National Guard for more than 30 years. He served in two Iraq conflicts, and now lives with service-connected disabilities including post-traumatic stress disorder.

Some flooring in Smith's home is uneven, which Home Depot said makes it unsafe to use his wheelchair or cane.

The renovations will make his home on Rhett Road more safe and accessible.
