Bluffton, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Crisis-trained chaplains with the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team are being deployed across the southeastern United States in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew's destruction.

The hurricane, which led to the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people, left damage in Florida and Georgia, made landfall in South Carolina and continued up the coast into North Carolina.

Eight chaplains have been deployed in Bluffton to help with disaster relief. Additional teams are preparing to be deployed in eastern North Carolina but are awaiting damage assessment.

“Hurricane Matthew struck with ferocious power,” said Jack Munday, international director of the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team, “and we still don’t know the full extent to which it has damaged areas of impact. Our team is prepared to offer hope and comfort to the people affected by this storm in the midst of their pain.”
