COWPENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Duke Energy reported an outage affecting thousands of Spartanburg County residents on Monday.

According to the utility company, more than 7,000 people were without power when a vehicle struck a transmission tower on Vulcan Road around 3:20 p.m.

Most of the outages were reported in the area of Cowpens, Pacolet and Clifton. A Duke Energy spokesperson said as of 5 p.m. power was restored for all but 1,500 customers.

A spokesperson for Spartanburg County District 3 schools said all schools in the district were temporarily without power except Pacolet Middle School. The district notified parents of the outage.

The Broome vs. Clinton High School volleyball game has been postponed due to the outage.
