Charlotte police investigating another officer-involved shooting

CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are investigating an officer-involved shooting Wednesday morning.

The shooting happened around 1:40 a.m.

According to a news release for the police department, a female officer was on patrol when she heard multiple gunshots coming from the parking lot of the Days Inn hotel on East Woodlawn Road. The officer pulled into the parking lot, exited her car, and immediately encountered an individual who was armed with a handgun.  The officer believed the man was an imminent deadly threat at which time she fired her service weapon.

Additional officers arrived and helped render medical aid, including applying a tourniquet to the man’s wounded leg.

The suspect was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

The police officer was not hurt and has been placed on leave as the department investigates the shooting.
