ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Anderson County officials confirmed that baby was abandoned in front of a local supermarket Wednesday.

The baby was reportedly left in a car seat in the foyer of Public on Clemson Blvd.

The child was a 9-week-old baby girl, according to officials.

Anderson County deputies initially said the baby would be turned over to the Department of Social Services.

The mother of the abandoned baby later contacted authorities and was interviewed.

Anderson County received 911 calls from the mom shortly after the investigation began. In the calls, the mom was crying and frantic that she had left her baby.

Surveillance footage from the store showed the mom walking out to her car and driving off without her infant.

Officials later learned that the mother and baby were from Georgia. Investigators in Georgia searched the mother's home and found no reason for concern. The mom had no prior history with DSS.

The baby was returned to the mother Wednesday evening.
