Deputies: Arden man arrested after law enforcement intervenes in child sex crime

BREVARD, NC (FOX Carolina) -

An Arden man was arrested after law enforcement agencies joined forces to intervene plans to commit an unlawful sex act with a minor.

Investigators first got wind of predatory activity online on Friday, October 7.

Soon after, a further investigation began which led to the arrest of 49-year-old Robert James McFadden of Arden, N.C. The arrest came on Tuesday, October 111 after McFadden reportedly drove from Buncombe County to Transylvania County to meet who he thought was a 14-year-old girl and commit an unlawful sexual act.

With the help of detectives from the Transylvania County Sheriff's Office, Brevard Police Department and agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), McFadden was taken into custody in Pisgah Forest, N.C. 

In a release, the Transylvania County Sheriff's Office and the North Carolina SBI stressed that both agencies take these types of incidents seriously.

Anyone with information regarding suspicious online activity is urged to notify law enforcement officials.
