ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The coroner was called to the scene of a fatal moped vs. vehicle crash in Anderson County Thursday evening.

Highway Patrol troopers said the roadway was blocked by the wreck on Middleton Road and Doris McGill Jones Road around 5:38 p.m.

A moped reportedly pulled out in front of a vehicle and was struck while attempting to make a left turn. The moped driver was ejected during the collision.

According to Lt. JD Robinson of the Flat Rock-Bowen Fire Department said the coroner was called to the scene of the crash and one driver was reportedly killed on impact in the crash. Another driver was transported to AnMed with minor injuries.

Officials said that 52-year-old Robert Wayne Gaines  was killed during the crash just 1.1 miles from his home on Hamby Road in Starr. He had just gotten his moped repaired and wanted to take it out for one last spin before the fall chill set in.

Reportedly, Gaines ran a stop sign and was hit by a teen driver at the intersection of Doris McGill Jones Road and Middleton Road, and the coroner said he was under the influence during incident.
