INMAN, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Spartanburg County teen is being remembered after a night gone wrong.

Spartanburg County deputies said 15-year-old Deondre Brannon was shot and killed after he and another minor tried to steal a car last Tuesday night.

The sheriff told us a vehicle had been stolen from the same home a day or two before although it's not clear if was the same people involved in that initial crime.

On Sunday night, an event was held where the community gathered in prayer about the situation at a vigil.

Brannon may have been young but those at the vigil said he somehow touched their lives.

Brannon's mother Kesha Oglesby said her son was an athlete and had an outgoing personality. Everyone that knew Brannon called him by his nickname, Mooki.

"Everyone loved my son, and we are just showing the love back and the outcome and everybody here means a lot to me and that was my baby. And he didn't deserve this," Oglesby said.

The Put Down the Guns Now Young People Organization led the candlelight vigil at a Spartanburg County park Tuesday evening. Jack Logan said he feels the teenager made a mistake.

"He made a bad choice. We have to put this behind us and try to prevent this from happening to another child," Logan said.
