Report: Five arrested, charged in connection with string of NC armed robberies

EAST FLAT ROCK, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Officers with the Henderson Police Department have made five arrests in connection with a recent string of armed robberies.

Deputies said around 5:32 p.m. on October 16 they responded to an armed robbery at El Trebol Tienda Mexicana. The restaurant is located on the 2000 block of Spartanburg Highway in East Flat Rock, N.C. 

Later at 7:38 p.m., deputies said a second armed robbery occurred at a Subway restaurant near the intersection of Haywood Road and Stoney Mountain Road.

Suspects reportedly displayed a weapon at both locations, but no injuries were reported in the incidents.

A third robbery was reported later that Sunday at the Tri-Angle stop in Penrose in Transylvania County, and a fourth robbery reported on Monday October 17 at a BB&T branch on Dana Road. In the fourth robbery, a Goodwill employee reported being robbed of the store's nightly deposit at the bank.

During the investigation, Hendersonville police discovered that all four robberies were related and had been committed by the same suspects.

Just before midnight on Friday, October 21, Kevin Amaury Rodriguez, 36, of East Flat Rock, Samantha Rodriquez, 28, of East Flat Rock and Miles J. Dunbar, 18 of Fletcher, were all arrested for their involvement in the robberies, detectives said.

Kevin Rodriguez was charged with  four counts of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, aiding and abetting armed robbery and conspiracy to commit felony larceny, reports said.  He is currently in the Henderson County Jail.

Samantha Rodriquez was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit felony larceny and one count of larceny by employee.

Dunbar was charged with three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, three counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, three counts of second degree kidnapping, one count of larceny from a person and one count of felony larceny, reports said.  He is also being held in the Henderson County Jail.

Investigators were also looking for two other suspects related to the robberies.

Deputies said arrest warrants for Demarkus Lovon Dunbar, 25 of Fletcher and Luis Enrique Laguna, 41 of Hendersonville, were issued following the robberies.

Demarkus Dunbar was charged with three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, three counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, three counts of second degree kidnapping, one count of larceny from a person and one count of felony larceny, warrants state.

Laguna was charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and two counts aiding and abetting robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to warrants.

Deputies said that both Dunbar and Laguna had been taken into custody as of Saturday evening.
