ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Anderson law enforcement, fire departments and EMS personal invite Upstate residents to participate in a special event to honor first responders and police killed in the line of duty.

"Walk in the Park" will be held this Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and anyone who wants to show support to the families of fallen Upstate heroes is welcome to attend. It's an annual event held under the shed at Chris Taylor Park behind the Civic Center.

Each year families of fallen officers and first responders are invited to attend. A short memorial service naming each person killed in the line of duty is held, and after the ceremony, family and attendees walk around the track in the park in silence in honor of those who lost their lives working to keep the community safe and for a drug-free community. Special guest speakers will also be in attendance.

"Walk in the Park" coincides with Red Ribbon Week, which was started after the death of DEA special agent Enrique "KiKi" Camarena. Camarena was tortured and killed in the line of duty as he was working undercover on a drug trade case in Mexico.
