WALHALLA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Testimony will begin Tuesday in the trial for a man accused of setting his wife on fire in 2014 in Oconee County.

Deputies said Jacob Drotning poured gasoline on a woman and set her on fire inside a house on Utica Street in May 2014.

Deputies were initially called in response to the fire at the residence, and found the victim on the front porch when they arrived. The victim suffered burns to nearly half her body.

Drotning told investigators he had been trying to light a grill at the home with gasoline and it blew up on the victim, per investigative reports. Investigators said the grills were cool to the touch and coated with dew. Drotning was arrested and charged with attempted murder and arson.

Drotning was also charged with second degree assault and battery after deputies said he and two other inmates fought with guards at the Oconee County Detention Center in April 2016.

Drotning's trial was originally scheduled for April but was postponed. A jury was seated on Monday.
