BOILING SPRINGS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

What started as a classroom experiment may soon become the norm in one Spartanburg County school district.

Instead of plain old desks and chairs, teachers said students in some classrooms at Boiling Springs Intermediate School are learning while they use fitness equipment, fitness balls, and balance boards.

Teachers said the kinesthetic classrooms were made possible by grants.

Officials said they’ve seen an increase in student focus and performance since installing the equipment.

They started with one kinesthetic classroom but now have three due to the success.

Teachers said sitting forces blood to the lower extremities, but standing and moving gets more blood flowing to the brain and more brain activity.
