Deputies: 12-year-old arrested after knife assault in Spartanburg County

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A 12-year-old was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after threatening her mother and 3-yer-old sibling with a knife and destroying Halloween decorations, Spartanburg County deputies said.

Deputies said they were called to a home on Worden Drive after the incident took place.

Deputies said the girl grabbed a ceramic knife during an argument with her mother and began swinging the knife toward the mother and the other child. The child also reportedly ran outside and began cutting up Halloween decorations, and at one point threw a scarecrow decoration at her mother, according to investigative reports.

Deputies said they mother insisted that the child be charged and they took the child into custody. After a medical evaluation, deputies said they child was transported to the Columbia Department of Juvenile Justice.
