COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Governor Nikki Haley announced at a press conference on Monday that leaders at the South Carolina Electric and Gas company have doubled their original flood relief donation.

A check from SCE&G originally marked with $100,000 has been crossed out and changed to $200,000 for the One SC Flood Relief Fund.

“I am proud to say that through the work of the foundation – our fund as well as all the voluntary organization – we have been able to put 15 hundred families back in their homes,” Governor Haley said.

The One SC Flood Relief Fund was established in November of 2015 to assist South Carolinians in the event of natural disasters. The fund first provided relief and recovery assistance to state residents after October 2015’s flood.

“What we saw was a lot of water, and what we needed was to get the water out of the way but then the work wasn’t done,” Governor Haley said. “It wasn’t just about clearing the roads and making sure everyone’s power was back on it was about ‘how do we help those who are most challenged.’”

To date, the Fund has distributed $2,000,000 in grants to nonprofits to support flood recovery projects across our state that have helped over 1,500 families return home.
