MAULDIN, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Halloween is less than two weeks away, and, not surprisingly, talk of clowns is back.  And we are learning, Target is pulling some creepy clown costumes from their shelves and online.

It follows clown sightings that have been happening around the country, including in South Carolina over the summer.  We spoke with local costume stores that said they are still stocking the clown costumes.

They weren’t sure how popular the costume would be this year.  But at Carolina Fashions costume store in Mauldin, plant manager Robert Watson told us people are still buying up the clown costumes, especially the young adults.

“Sales have been up a little bit.  I think a lot of young people they just want to mess with people, and play a little bit.”

At Costume Curio on Laurens Road, costume coordinators like Jeannie Harmon have been busy, and they've also been getting some questions about clowns.

“We've had a lot of people asking about it. I think they just want to know if we have the clown costumes, but we haven't had too many who have gotten them.  I think they are scared to go through with it.”

We also spoke with local police departments to see if they would be adding extra patrols over Halloween.  They said for the most part it will be business as usual, although they will keep a close eye on trick-or-treaters to make sure those kids stay safe.
