ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A famous face from an Upstate football field invited the public to celebrate his birthday with him on Tuesday and give back to the community.

James “Radio” Kennedy turned 70 on Friday but celebrated the grand occasion on Tuesday at Chic-Fil-A

Kennedy has long been a part of the football tradition at T.L Hanna High School and was the subject of the 2003 film “Radio,” which started Cuba Gooding Jr. as Kennedy and Ed Harris as Coach Harold Jones, who will also be at the birthday celebration.

His birthday party was held at the Chick-Fil-A on Greenville Street from 5 to 7 p.m. and Kennedy welcomed all attendees with hugs and photos.

Coach Harold Jones has been next to Radio for nearly every birthday since 1964 when he was just 18-years-old.

As friends, family and fans joined Radio on his special day, Coach Jones is reminded of the day all those years ago when their friendship formed.

"Coach Patterson and myself were coaching JV football," Coach Jones said. "He'd walk by the field, but never would come close to us. Couldn't utter words. We couldn't understand a word he said. God! Look at him now!"

At the event, attendees were encouraged to make a donation to the Anderson Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club in Radio’s honor.

Those interested in making donations can text RADIO to 91999.
