UNION, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Upstate man is behind bars at the Union County Jail after reports say he caused great bodily injury on a 14-month-old baby girl.

According to arrest warrants, Dillon Tanner Johnson, 24 of Woodruff, was arrested and charged with causing substantial injuries to a 14-month-old that could cause a risk of permanent disfigurement or death. The child had to receive medical attention due to the bruises on her face and head, the report states.

The incident occurred in Union County on Sept 4 while the mother of the child had gone to pick up dinner and left her child with Johnson, her boyfriend, said the report. When the mother returned home she said her boyfriend told her the child fell out of his arms. The child was taken to Union Medical Center and transferred to GHS Children’s Hospital for medical care.

Union County deputies were dispatched to GHS on Sept 5 and the investigation began.

After reviewing all evidence, deputies said Johnson was booked into the Union County Jail on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. and charged with felony child abuse.

They said bond is expected to be denied by the magistrate.
