SCDOT votes to rename of Townville Interchange in honor of Jacob Hall

An Anderson County road will soon see a name change in honor of first-grader Jacob Hall who lost his life after a September shooting at Townville Elementary.

SCDOT District 3 Commissioner Ben Davis said he an his colleagues voted Thursday to pass a resolution to rename the Anderson County I-85/Highway 24 Interchange to the "Jacob L. Hall Memorial Interchange."

Davis said he's looking forward to doing something that will help the community heal.

FOX Carolina is told that the commission voted unanimously to pass the proposal.

On September 28, a gunman opened fire at Townville Elementary, injuring three students and one teacher. Sadly, 6-year-old Jacob Hall died from his injuries three days after the incident.

A RESOLUTION TO NAME THE I-85 AT SC 24 INTERCHANGE IN ANDERSON COUNTY THE “JACOB L. HALL MEMORIAL INTERCHANGE.”

WHEREAS, Jacob L. Hall,  born on May 9, 2010, died a superhero to all at the young age of 6 on Saturday, October 1, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Jacob was tragically wounded after shots were fired on the playground at Townville Elementary School on Tuesday, September 28, 2016, and surrounded by his family, Jacob died as a result of his injuries;

WHEREAS, Jacob is remembered as a child that showed those around him how to love, laugh and smile even on bad days, and his family, friends and community celebrated his life on October 5, 2016, garbed in capes, cowls, and superhero-themed clothing; and

WHEREAS, even though Jacob left this life at an early age, his significant impact on the lives of everyone who knew him will be forever cherished and remembered as a blessing; and

WHEREAS, his death is a somber reminder of how a senseless act can affect not only a family but a community; and

WHEREAS, he left behind his mother and father, Rodger and Renae Hall, and his brothers and sisters, Rodger Hall, Jr., Gerald Gambrell, T.J. Mullins, Emily Hall, Nicole Sims, Zoey Hall, and Spencer Hall, and his grandparents, Steve and Sandra McAdams, Jerry Bridges, and Thomas and Denise Hall.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the South Carolina Department of Transportation Commission, this 20th day of October 2016, that the Interchange at I-85 and SC 24 in Anderson County is hereby named the “Jacob L. Hall Memorial Interchange.”
