Driver charged following fatal motorcycle wreck in Greenville

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville County Coroner confirmed he is responding to a fatal motorcycle wreck in Greenville. 

Troopers said the two-vehicle crash occurred around 3:02 p.m. on Rutherford Road at Piedmont Park Road.

According to troopers, a man was traveling south on Rutherford Road on a motorcycle when it struck the side of a pickup truck exiting a private driveway onto the street.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet during the crash, was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Greenville County coroner identified the deceased motorcyclist as 67-year-old Charles J. O'Shields of Greenville. His cause of death was ruled by the coroner as blunt force trauma to the head and body.

The driver of the truck was wearing a seat belt and was not injured or transported to the hospital following the incident. He was charged with failure to yield right away.

The identity of the deceased motorcyclist has not yet been released.
