LAKE LURE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Some residents near Lake Lure have been ordered to evacuate due to a forest fire spreading.

The evacuation area is in the Quail Ridge Huntington Road area of Rumbling Bald Resort as firefighters work to contain a 300-acre wildfire at Party Rock. At 3 p.m., emergency personnel were going door-to-door to notify residents.

ResortCams.com posted a live feed from Lake Lure with the fire visible in the distance.

The fire was reportedly 30 percent contained as of 12:30 p.m., but had crossed over some containment lines. Crews said they are literally fighting fire with fire and helicopters are continuing aerial water drops.

The Forest Service reported that local crews, along with volunteers, have taken steps to protect homes by removing leaves, limbs and any other combustibles from around the homes.Twenty engine companies from Rutherford, Poll, Henderson and McDowell counties will begin structure protection of the homes in the evacuation area.

According to The Forest Service, air drops of fire retardant will continue Tuesday evening in an effort to stop the fire from moving any further toward Rumbling Bald Resort. They are also working with local water systems to ensure water suppliers are available for firefighters.

Caution is urged for travelers on Boys Camp Road as the sight and smell of smoke are very thick.

Residents who may not have been home during the evacuation, but who did not receive an evacuation notice should call the resort for temporary housing at 828-694-3046.

Anyone wishing to help the firefighters battling the blaze are asked to drop off food and water at the Lake Lure Fire Department. Donations can also be dropped off at the Ingles Supermarket on Highway 9. Click here for more information.
