Windy Wednesday, wildfire smoke lingers

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Air Quality Alert continues for Western North Carolina as wildfire smoke remains in the air. Winds will potentially push some of this smoke into the Upstate throughout the day, with many likely seeing or smelling it in the area.

Gusty winds will prevail through Wednesday with highs in the upper 60s for the Upstate and upper 50s in the mountains. Skies will slowly clear to sunshine. Tonight, lows drop into the 40s.

Thursday will bring calmer winds, sunny skies and comfortable temps in the low to mid 60s area-wide.

A blast of cold air is expected to arrive Friday night, bringing the potential for a frost/freeze area-wide this weekend for Saturday and Sunday night, while daytimes stay in the 50s and low 60s.

Drought conditions continue to worsen. Extreme drought areas are expected to expand across much of the Upstate and mountains if no measurable rain can be found soon.
