Sheriff to Swain Co. residents: Be ready to evacuate at moment's notice

SWAIN, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The Swain County Sheriff's Office is asking everyone in the path of fires to be ready to evacuate at a moments notice.

The announcement comes amid numerous wildfires breaking out across western North Carolina.

Emergency Management and Fire Departments are working with the sheriff's office to ensure the public's safety.

The sheriff's office asks anyone in need of a ride to safety to call 911 and a deputy or other official will assist.

Extra deputies will also be dispatched to the western part of Swain County until the fires are contained.
